  • UA universities and community campuses celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day, Oct. 14

    The University of èßäÊÓƵ is on the forefront of a national movement among universities, including Harvard and the University of Utah, to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day rather than Columbus Day. The decision for UA universities and campuses to celebrate Indigenous People's Day was unanimously supported with resolutions from students, staff and faculty groups across the system.

  • UA stakeholder survey results announced

    The University of èßäÊÓƵ Board of Regents commissioned WayMark Analytics to conduct a statewide survey of key stakeholders in èßäÊÓƵ's higher education system. The public opinion survey results were reviewed during the September 12 Board of Regents meeting. An explanation of the survey results are posted on the New UA website.

    The University of èßäÊÓƵ has taken steps toward reducing administrative overhead, and is engaged in a review process to evaluate options for the future structure of the UA system. Work will occur during the months ahead to make the èßäÊÓƵ more efficient in delivering academic programs and services to students. Exactly what that change looks like is still a work in progress.

    Cybercriminals use phishing--a type of social engineering--to manipulate people into doing what they want. Social engineering is at the heart of all phishing attacks, especially those conducted via e-mail. Technology makes phishing easy. Setting up and operating a phishing attack is fast, inexpensive, and low risk: any cybercriminal with an e-mail address can launch one.

    Later this month, Fairbanks will welcome the èßäÊÓƵ Federation of Natives Convention. The theme of this year's gathering is "Good Government, èßäÊÓƵn Driven," which reflects a call to work together for a state government that is in service to the needs of all èßäÊÓƵns. This theme also underscores the University of èßäÊÓƵ's mission to empower èßäÊÓƵns with the knowledge to lead our state.

    Joint message from Board Chair Davies, President Johnsen, & Chancellors Caulfield, Sandeen, and White On September 26 UA's institutional accreditor, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), forwarded a letter (attached) to the Board of Regents, President Johnsen, and Chancellors Caulfield, Sandeen, and White "expressing concern as to the ongoing efforts to respond to the funding challenges faced by the state's institution of higher learning."

  • Academic Review process underway

    September 23, 2019

    Dear UA Community, The Expedited Academic Review process is now underway. There are 13 inter-èßäÊÓƵ academic review teams charged with preparing reports on possibilities for greater program integration, structural changes, and accreditation options to achieve cost savings and re-envision the delivery of academic programs across the èßäÊÓƵ system. The teams are starting their work this week. Their reports will inform options for consideration by the Board of Regents at its November meeting.
